A Repost

Last August I wrote a post with my advice to the 1L's. Considering it is about that time again I figured I'd repost it in all of its glory. So, to all you people out there entering into your first year of lawschool, I give you this:

- Don't judge those who went to other schools becuase you know/think your undergraduate experience was better. Just becuase these people didn't want to live in the land of awesomeness that was Southern City I lived in, they still have valuable things to teach you. Like how to layer your clothing when you tailgate for a football game and the art of drinking beer with gloves on.

- Don't make out with/sleep with people in your section until you are sure you can live with any consequences that stem from it. And there will be some. I promise.

- Remember you are in law school. As in professional school. There are things I did on a very, very regular basis in college that you won't find me doing now. I've gotten the risque costume wearing, dancing on bars, and the vomiting in bar bathrooms out of my system. For the most part. Everyone slips up now and then.

- Have fun. Don't be a bitch. Don't raise your hand every day. Don't mooch outlines, don't ask the person next to you to catch you up to speed if you spent the class period gmail chatting/playing online poker, and don't hide books in the library that everyone needs. In other words, don't be that guy/girl.

And most importantly? Don't treat it like a popularity contest. It isn't.

Hopefully if you follow these directions you won't find out at the end of your first year that a bunch of guys called you Heather. As in, from the 80's movie the Heathers.

My bad.
